Bonsai Trip 1 for 2010

The moon from camp

Now that I have had my new Hilleberg Soulo tent for a little over a month, I was chomping at the bit to give it a go!

Since the holidays, my family and I have been either going to visit someone or attend an event every weekend! Now, Ciro’s 2nd birthday doesn’t count, as I wouldn’t miss that for anything!

Finally, a weekend arrives with no plans…So we go through our normal evening ritual with dinner and putting Ciro to bed. But, before Amy hits the hay I asked if she minded if I went camping. She said “sure, just pack prepared and bring a weapon!”

So, with the temperatures dropping faster than Tiger’s shorts and a low pressure front moving in, I loaded the Jeep to hit the road. I thought that this would be a great test for me and some of my gear.

Powder Horn Montana TV

Let’s show a little support for Jason Matzinger and John Edwards hosts of Powder Horn Montana TV. The Sportsman Channel is holding it’s 2009 Choice Awards. Even though this is the first season of Powder Horn Montana TV, they have covered most of the big game in North America. They don’t talk much about the gear they use, instead they provide tactics for the hunt and how to score trophy animals “before the shot”!

Sylvan Sport ‘GO’ Review

Sylvan Sport GO

By Chaz with 4 All Outdoors

This was the most informative review that I have read on the Sylvan Sport GO.  Anytime that you can use an item for more than one task or function, it’s a winner in my book!

Having said that, there are some questions that I still have on this camping and travel trailer.

What is the snow load?

How well will it handle those Montana prairie land summer storms, with high winds and heavy rain?

Would they consider this a 3 season, 4 season or all season camping trailer?

Who are their direct competitors? Jumping Jack or Little GUY?

Who or what market are they catering to?

Give the article a read and let me know your thoughts.

Jetboil Flash Stove Review

Jetboil Flash 002

Here is a great review on the “new” version of the Jetboil PCS, huhmm “flash” stove.  Some of the new features are very useful and will be giving this model a try myself. I know it is a bit heavier than some other stoves, but when you look at efficiency, reliability, convenience it all becomes relative to weight.

This will get the “DTs” started for elk season!

CAWE, provides us with a taste of getting away from the chaotic lives that a good portion of us live on the coasts and some great photos to make the pain for us just too far to do a “bonsai trip” to elk county.

John gives us a great tip that is very functional and light on the wallet!

There are 2 things to take care of on your body, especially in the early season…that is your feet and back!

Thanks for the great tip!

Those of who venture into the back country alone or with friends do so because it gets us away from the world and it reminds us all how beautiful the world is and how small we are.  For many of us, venturing into the wild keeps us grounded as to who we are as people and it is just as important to go into the wild as it is to get up in the morning, to eat and to sleep. These trips are incredibly important to me and to the members of our Pro Staff.  Each and every one of us carries a SPOT Messenger into the wilds with us.  We want to get away, we also want to know where we have been, and we want to know that if the stuff hits the fan and we get hurt out there…We can push that magic button and someone is coming to get us.

SPOT Messengers are now $99.95 and you get a full year of tracking with our Promotional Code:  HuntingLife23

You have to enter this promotional code when you sign up for your service package and I recommend signing up for the two year commitment to bring your yearly rates down.
