IdahoFish Game Early Elk Seasons Open Next Month

Some early elk hunts open August 1, most of them antlerless “green-field” hunts.

The early “green-field” hunts in seven elk management zones – Palouse, Weiser, Lemhi, Beaverhead, Pioneer, Snake River and Owyhee-South Hills zones – are meant to help landowners reduce crop damage.

Early archery hunts also start August 1 in the Snake River elk zone, and controlled green-field hunts also open in the Dworshak and Hells Canyon zones.

The green-field hunts are open only outside the National Forest Boundary and within one mile of cultivated fields. They help reduce depredation problems and control populations causing crop damage by harvesting or discouraging animals in specific areas or portions of units. Read more…

Colorado Division of Wildlife 300 National Get Outdoors Day

DENVER, Colo. The Colorado Division of Wildlife will participate in a Junior Ranger Camp at the 2010 National Get Outdoors Day.  Held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Denver City Park, families are invited to meet wildlife officers and DOW educators to investigate the wildlife mystery of Who pooped in the park? Participants will learn the skills necessary to track and identify animals based on a number of activities and senses.

Getting kids outside is a large part of teaching a healthier lifestyle. Recent studies show the younger generation spends more than 6.5 hours a day watching screens and are six times more likely to play a computer game than ride a bike. Children are four times more likely to be obese than previous generation.  And, more than $160 billion in direct public spending is now attributable to largely preventable chronic illnesses. RMEF Bull Run Annual Banquet UPDATE

Posted By: Rudy  //  Category: Conservation, Hunting & Fishing Events

I wanted to provide a little update on our Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) Bull Run Chapter Annual Banquet that was held this past Saturday.

We had a great turnout in attendance this year even though we were experiencing August like weather with the temps in the 90s with high humidity. We met some new friends and some new potential committee members. We raised some good money for the RMEF, which will be greatly utilized in the reintroduction of elk in Virginia.

Here are some photos of the event:
