Recently, in the organization of their “Ride for the Rescues,” American Competitive Trail Horse Association (ACTHA) aligned themselves with the HSUS. After discussing this at length with ACTHA, we (Montana Horses, Inc.) have cancelled our affiliated ride and withdrawn our membership from ACTHA. As many of you know, HSUS is specifically anti-animal agriculture, anti-rodeo, and implies an anti-horse use by humans agenda. As horse ranchers in the heart of ranch country, our business cannot tolerate the polarizing effects the HSUS affiliation would have.
Since our cancellation, there have been many questions. Let me assure you : WE’RE STILL RIDING. Same Day, Same Trail, Different Sponsors, Different Goals. BETTER COMPETITION.
I direct you to ACTHA for further explanation on their part. We maintain our support if ACTHA’s trail horse registry and competitive trail ride association. However, in their efforts to get donations for their June “Ride for the Rescues” they affiliated with HSUS (The Humane Society of the United States) and have solicited their help to administer and disseminate their rescue dollars, in addition to partnering with them to garner support. They have invited HSUS to their organizational meetings and to their planning sessions. They have asked us, as official affiliates, to sit at the same table with and embrace HSUS. WE REFUSE.
We consider HSUS a very dangerous and deceitful organization. It has a specifically anti-animal agriculture agenda and its sole purpose is to further that agenda, NOT help animals in need. The Humane Society of the United States is NOT connected to your local humane society or local rescue organizations. They are a PAC and must promote their political agenda. We do not agree with that agenda.
If you are interested in a rescue organization’s perspective on the HSUS, please contact Nadine at projectspirit.org. PROJECT SPIRIT will be the recipient of any donations our May 29th Ride receives. We know the money will get to horses in need and help an organization that truly deserves and needs it.
Stay tuned for registration details. We thank you for your patience as we re-organize for another outstanding ride on our Ultimate Horse Course.
