CHEYENNE – Hunters who would like to pick up reduced price licenses for elk, deer and antelope can begin purchasing these licenses at 8 a.m. Mountain Time on July 21.

Reduced price licenses may be purchased in addition to full-price licenses. Reduced price licenses stand on their own and purchase of a full price licenses is not a prerequisite for obtaining these licenses.

Available reduced price licenses include 5,711 cow/calf elk, 14,746 doe/fawn deer and 21,457 doe/fawn antelope. Licenses are available to both residents and nonresidents. Hunters have the option of purchasing the licenses via their home computers, from Wyoming Game and Fish Department regional offices or by going to license agents that are on the automated computer system.

A listing of agents on the automated system can be found on the Game and Fish Web site https://gf.state.wy.us. The website also has a listing of areas where licenses are remaining as well as instructions for applying for licenses online.

Hunters should check regulations carefully before obtaining reduced price licenses as some have different seasons from full-price licenses and may be valid only in a portion of the area.

Access in areas with remaining licenses is a mixture of public and private lands. Some areas have large amounts on national forests while others are predominantly private. The majority of remaining antelope licenses is for hunt areas where public access is limited. Many of the deer licenses are also for private land areas, but several of the nonresident regions with issue-after licenses have large amounts of public land access. Many of the elk licenses are for hunt areas within national forest lands and most of the remaining licenses are for antlerless elk only. However, remaining elk licenses also include some areas with archery only licenses and a handful of licenses that allow the taking of either antlered or antlerless elk.

A number of the areas with remaining licenses also have public access provided through the Game and Fish Walk-In Area and Hunter Management programs. Hunters are urged to research areas with leftover licenses, and where necessary, obtain permission to hunt from landowners before applying.

Hunters who have questions on hunt areas and applying for licenses can contact the Game and Fish at (307) 777-4600. (Contact: Al Langston (307) 777-4540) or here.

Leftover licenses for Wyoming deer, elk, and antelope go on sale 8:00am MT on July 7th.  The licenses will be sold on a first-come first-served basis, so you’ll need to act quickly if you’re interested.

The July 7th sale is for buck/bull and either-sex licenses. Reduced-price doe/cow licenses go on sale on July 21st.

In previous years, leftover licenses were allocated via an application and drawing process. Starting this year, licenses are first-come first-served.

Some of the areas where licenses are available have reasonable public access either through public federal and state lands or through Wyoming’s hunter management and walk-in area programs. However, there are also many licenses remaining in hunt areas that are predominantly private lands where public access is difficult.

Leftover license list can be found here.

More information on the leftover license sale process can be found here.

Hunters who have questions on applying for licenses or public access in the different hunt areas can contact the Wyoming Game and Fish at (307) 777-4600.
